If you're wondering why you should enter the 2023 competition, look no further:

Community

The coffee industry is growing and the more events we have that bring the community together, the better we get, as we push each other to new heights!

Practice

You get to discover an amazing new coffee, using your own roaster in the comfort of your own roastery, honing your skills and developing a new profile on your own beautiful piece of equipment.

Feedback

Our panel of expert judges, who have five years of experience under their belt, take the utmost care to consider each roast and send you feedback. Everyone gets the same water to work with sponsored by BWT Water + More and Equipment Cafe so the judges can give very accurate feedback.

Ettienne Broodryk has entered since 2020 and each year he has steadily made his way up the leaderboard by taking heed of the judges feedback and honing his skills each year. In 2022 he placed 3rd overall!

Fun

The blind tasting element of the competition means that everyone is on a level playing field and the key word is ‘play’! Get out of your daily routine and challenge yourself! We've also secured an amazing coffee with our Preliminary Round Sponsor Marunic Coffee Trading, so you know it's going to be delicious and challenging!

Gather

With your entry fee you receive a complimentary ticket to Creative Coffee Week (worth R3000) to discuss, roast and find out the winner of the 2023 season: 26-28 July 2023 in Durban, South Africa.

Make your entry fee back

We have designed the competition so that you can sell the coffee you don’t send to the judges as a special edition and easily make your entry fee back!

An Origin Trip is the prize for the Champion!

At the end of May we are taking some of the previous ASITD winners on the ASITD Championship Tour to Rwanda, all expenses paid! Put your name in the ring to book a spot on the next adventure!
