Name of Roastery: The Roaster's Mug

Name of Head Roaster: Kathleen de Bruyn

How did you get into coffee roasting?

Hahaha it started with a google search in lockdown!  How is coffee roasted? I asked! Then I tripped into the rabbit hole of coffee roasting. 3 books later(frustration to keep myself busy during lockdown) I told my husband I want to start roasting coffee.

What is your favourite coffee to roast currently?

Mmmmm..... a bit difficult to say...It's between a Nicaragua and Columbia.  The taste varieties you get out of them with different type of roasts are mind-blowing.

If you had to drink one coffee for the rest of your life, what would it be? (Origin, varietal, processing, roast profile)

Why only one?  Thats part of the fun in tasting different origins, it's an endless rabbit hole of taste, and flavors. But if I must choose I would go for a Columbia.

What has been your favourite moment in coffee?

That moment when I hit first crack 10 degrees earlier, after making changes to the roast profile.

Tell us one of your favourite songs!

Without a doubt Adiemus from Karl Jenkins.  For years that song have lifted me up and energized me in ways only a few songs can.

If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

My grandmother's green beans.

Where can we find your roastery?

We are based in Dundee, Northern KZN. Not a shop yet,  roasting from home at the moment and selling to shops and restaurants.

Can we buy your coffee online?

Yes, our coffee is available at Local Grind and Craft craze
