Cafe of the Week: The Whippet

Thursday, 12 December, 2013
This cafe in the community of Linden is a wonderful celebration of local. The Whippet has a specific philosophy about being the friendly neighbourhood cafe and embracing all the good in their own backyard. The cafe has a fantastic vibe and everyone seems to be shiny and happy on entry. The details are important to this team.

They use the Linden Blend, which consists of Costa Rican and Malawian beans. They are very passionate about their coffee. They hold regular Home Barista courses with Matt Carter. My double espresso arrived with a good crema and the flavour did not disappoint. They sell a selection of local goods from jewellery to books. They grow their own herbs. Their menu items are all produced with love and care. And their little cakes baked by local baker Gabbie, shew they look gorgeous (and there's a gluten free option)! Everyone is wearing a fabulous smile. Long harvest tables and little cafe tables, very interesting furniture pieces that were all manufactured by Lucky (part of the team) from recycled wood. Every few months they completely revamp the store by selling out all the current furniture at ridiculous prices. How awesome is that? This is a versatile space that can be used as a meeting venue, for a coffee date or a spot to get some work done.

And heads up people, they have R10 cappuccinos on Mondays! Winning!

Look at the amazing hand made furniture.

How's the awesome impromtu bookshelf in the top right corner?

You can take a bag of the Linden Blend home with you. Yum!

Their herbs are growing happily outside, fresh from the garden to your plate!

Linda, Sbu and Caroline are the smiling team that greet you at the door!
