Father Coffee
BRAAMFONTEIN
73 Juta Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg
ROSEBANK
The Zone, 177 Oxford Rd, Rosebank, Johannesburg

We've long heard the legend of Father Coffee when we visit the streets of Jozi, but somehow we never quite made it there. Well, we've been missing out in a big way. Before an early meeting, we saw our opportunity and headed to the Rosebank branch.

The cafe scene in Johannesburg is finding its feet in a fantastic way, it has come so far in the last few years with the likes of Urban Grind, Origin Coffee Roasters and Firebird all making homes in the business capital of the country, a new wave joining the old guard.

We were greeted by Tawanda and (Uncle) Eric and they set about startling our sleepy, morning tastebuds into ecstatic delight; a piccolo of the Heirloom blend and on Tawanda's recommendation the natural Ethiopian Guji as a pour over. So much of deliciousness.

We met Barry, one of the co-owners, as he was setting up for roasting on their beautiful Diedrich. He recommended we also try the Rwandan (CYANIKA LOT #7, NYAMAGABE, RWANDA to be precise) before we left. Damn! It was beautiful, we couldn't resist buying a bag to take back to Durbs with us.

It got our day off to a fairly spectacular start and we will certainly be back in the future.
