We couldn't be prouder of Donovan McLagan and Byron Monty Keet. The Cup Tasters and Latte Art Competitions are still considered quite 'fringe' in our local competition set up, but by sheer determination of will these Port Elizabeth boys drummed up support from SCASA, their respective companies, Urban Espress and Famous Brands Coffee, along with the help and support of Morrico Imports, Rock and Roller Coffee Culture, Shaun Aupias and Angeline McLagan, they did South Africa proud by making this the first time we had a National competitor in 3 of the major World Coffee Events competitions. They have set a new standard for us to uphold and for that we are grateful. Going to an event like the World of Coffee is the best possible learning environment and opportunity to soak up local coffee culture.
As Byron said: "The nerves did get to me but I've learned an incredible amount. I know the standard now and I know what it takes to make top 6. I'm very keen to share what I've learned. "
