Cafe of the Week: Spoke Espresso

Thursday, 27 November, 2014

Coffee and cycling go hand in hand. We know this. What I didn't quite know was the extent to which top cyclists will go to push their personal bests, their fitness levels and their training regimes. Enter Jason Fitzpatrick of CycleZone, who returned from Sydney to Joburg and couldn't find a decent "Sydney-style" coffee anywhere for his state-of the art cycle laboratory. So he decided to collaborate with Father Coffee of Braamfontein fame to bring it in house.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Spoke Coffee. Not just a clever name, but serious coffee, equipment and investment in all the right categories.

The coffee is Father coffees secret blend, and the machine is a Nuova Simonelli Aurelia II, with a Mythos Clima-Pro Grinder. I had a cortado which was perfectly prepared and delicious. The cups are also amazing!

This is the virtual training room. I asked Jason "what do you do here" he replied: "It's a virtual reality indoor cycling training facility, athlete performance assessment and testing, metabolic weight management testing, bike fitting, bike servicing, coaching, physiotherapy, and of course Spoke Espresso - service artisan coffee."

Cortado!
