Catching up with the champ!

He's looking good folks. Our hopes for a Southern African World Barista Champ rest safely in the hands of Lovejoy Chirambasukwa.

Relaxed and confident, we found him doing what he does best, making coffee behind the gorgeous Syneso espresso machine at Origin Coffee Roasting.

The man is a well-oiled machine himself and he's putting in the hard graft to design the best possible set to take to the World Champs in Melbourne at the end of May. He tells us proudly he will be using a Rwandan bean. He has a few concerns about taking the beans half way across the world and getting the same result there, but he has experience having competed in Uganda earlier this year (where he won the African Championship!) and at the Nationals in Joburg. "It's going to be all about calibration when I get there. If I can handle Joburg which is really difficult because of the change in altitude then I can handle Melbourne."

Fighting talk from the coffee man of the moment. We wish Lovejoy everything of the best and we're extremely happy we got to see him before he jets off.
